About The Judges

The 2007 Diamonds jury represents 20+ senior-level marketing professionals representing client companies, marketing agencies, marketing media and trade associations from around the world. The judges are chosen for their experience, their expertise and their outstanding credentials.

Each campaign is reviewed by a majority of the jury. Judges with campaigns in the competition are not permitted to evaluate their own entry or any entries in the category their work is submitted in.

Alberto Averill Mineria

Director | Averill Marketing, Chile

Alberto Averill Mineria Alberto Averill graduated from the Universidad de Chile with a degree in Business Administration. He joined Unilever in the early 1980s where he served as Marketing Manager for the Edible Fats & Oils category. While at Unilever, Alberto attended several marketing courses in Europe and the USA. He was with the company for 10 years. Alberto is a frequent contributor to a variety of advertising and marketing publications in Chile, as well as the USA. He helped develop the Latin American arm of PROMO Magazine's World PRO Awards of Excellence from 1991 to 1998, while also serving as a judge for the program. He has also served as a frequent judge for the Marketing Agencies Association Worldwide's Globes Awards, the Effie Awards and now The Global Marketer's Diamond Awards.

Today Alberto runs his own marketing agency. His clients include consumer packaged goods and mining companies.

Hope Berschler

Marketing Partnerships and Promotions | eBay North America

Alberto Averill Mineria Hope Berschler has more than twenty years experience as an award-winning consumer marketer. She began her career in local radio marketing where she delivered relevant consumer experiences and through-the-line campaigns before the marketing buzz term was created. Hope has carried her passion for consumers locally, globally and virtually in marketing events and integrated promotions for companies including Coca-Cola (Philadelphia), AOL and now, eBay.
In her current role at eBay, she implements promotional campaigns designed to inspire and activate consumers.(She is also proud of her eBay feedback rating of 186; a result of both buying and selling on the marketplace site!) Hope’s programs have received multiple awards, including the 2004 PRO Award for Best Multi-Discipline campaign and she was named to the Event Marketer Dream Team in 2004. Additionally, she received MORE Magazine's "2005 Chutzpah on the Web Award" for her personal Brand Experiment. Hope continues to be a keen observer of popular culture and consumer behavior and is delighted to apply these learnings to her work and play every day.

Pablo Bize

General Manager | Doce Entertainment S.A

Alberto Averill Mineria Pablo Bize graduated with a degree in Civil Industrial Engineering from the University of Chile and has worked in licensing and promotion in Chile and elsewhere in Latin America over the past 18 years. Mr. Bize collaborated with and earned a distinction at the University for the development of a business model that reduces the risks, assesses the results and facilitates the execution of below-the-line marketing campaigns.
He has developed technologies of his own for building promotions into the manufacture and the marketing of consumer goods over the Internet and on mobile telephones. In addition to seving as professor of brand management at his alma mater, he has lectured at seminars on promotion marketing at other universities.
Mr. Bize is general manager of Doce Entertainment, a subsidiary of DOCE Holdings A.A., which is a leader in licensing and mass promotion in Chile, of which he has been a partner for the past 18 years. He is a director and partner in Doce Advertainment S.A. and Doce Publicidad, as well as a board member of Chile’s Promotional Marketing Association, AMPROCHILE, which he served as vice president from 2005 to 2007 and was elected president from 2007 to 2009. One of his main accomplishments at Ampro Chile has been the development and implementation of a Registration Platform for Online Ideas and Projects, whose purpose is to protect members’ creative work and intellectual property.

Peter Breen

Managing Director, Content | In-Store Marketing Institute, USA

Peter Breen Peter Breen has served as Managing Director of Content for the online library of the In-Store Marketing Institute since 2002. The Institute is a leading provider of information and insights for retail marketing professionals.
Before helping to launch instoremarketer.org, he spent nearly four years as Editor and Managing Editor of PROMO magazine, where he directed editorial content for the monthly magazine and such ancillary products as the PROMO Expo conference and the PROMO Xtra newsletter. His marketing experience also includes four years as Editor at Simba Information, where he managed publications on book publishing, computer advertising, and Internet marketing.
Peter is a graduate of the State University of New York at Buffalo, where he earned a B.A. in English and Linguistics and a special minor in Japanese Studies.

Pedro Demartini

Marketing Director | Unilever Australasia, Australia

Pedro Demartini Pedro Demartini started his marketing career at Panasonic Brazil in 1996. Two years later he joined Unilever. Since then he has held marketing positions within this company in Brazil, the USA and currently, Australia.
Pedro is responsible for managing Unilever’s Tea & Spreads portfolio, worth US$150 million across Australia and New Zealand. Key brands in the portfolio include Flora, Flora po-activ, Lipton and Bushells.
Pedro’s FMCG experience spans many food categories, including Savoury, Spreads and Tea. Pedro is married to Vanessa, with no kids (yet!). In his free time he enjoys waterskiing and other outdoor activities.
Peter is a graduate of the State University of New York at Buffalo, where he earned a B.A. in English and Linguistics and a special minor in Japanese Studies.

Jim Holbrook

CEO | EMAK Worldwide, USA

Jim Holbrook Jim began his career at Procter & Gamble, getting his first position by refusing to leave the lobby until they granted him an interview. (It took six trips, but he got the job.) He then moved on to Ralston Purina in 1984, where he further honed his marketing skills. He launched Purina O.N.E., one of the most successful new products launched since Puppy Chow. He led the Purina/Wal*Mart business team, taking revenues from $30 million to $300 million in three years. He also had the opportunity to spend time with his idol, Mr. Sam Walton.
He eventually became chief executive of the Beech-Nut baby food subsidiary and assistant to the Chairman of the Board of Ralston Purina. (Part-time, he earned his MBA from Washington University.) In 1996, he became enchanted with the lure of marketing services agency Zipatoni (having been a long time client) and took his vision about innovative marketing to the agency world. He helped lead the company as it ballooned from a 50-person creative boutique to a 200-person force in the industry. Jim engineered the sale of Zipatoni to the Interpublic Group (IPG) and stayed on as a group president of several agencies.
In late 2005, Jim was recruited to be CEO of EMAK Worldwide, a publicly traded (NASDAQ: EMAK) collection of agencies including Upshot, Equity Marketing, Pop Rocket, and Logistix/Mega. EMAK enjoys a world-class client roster including Kellogg’s, P&G, Miller Brewing, Disney, Burger King, Macy’s and Kraft. To him, the future looks even brighter for the marketing services industry.

Amie Smith Hughes

Editorial Director | The Global Marketer, USA

Amie Smith Hughes Amie Smith Hughes combines a global perspective with outstanding editorial skills, extensive Internet expertise and hands-on experience with a variety of marketing-industry organizations. She is a graduate of Franklin and Marshall College and holds a master's degree in linguistics from Boston University. A resident of New York, she has lived in the U.K. and Italy and travels throughout the world.
A co-founder and partner in The Global Marketer, she has worked as a magazine writer, foreign correspondent, agency account executive and awards program developer since 1990. Most recently she served as Executive Director of the Marketing Agencies Association Worldwide while serving as Awards Chairman for the organization's GLOBES Awards program.

Linda Jane Bennett

Senior Director | Yahoo! Buzz Marketing, USA

Linda Jane Bennett Linda Bennett ("Bennett") joined Yahoo! in 1999 and is responsible for leading the company's buzz marketing and promotions initiatives. She and her team spend their days thinking about how to stop consumers in their tracks when they run across Yahoo! marketing programs. Additionally, her team develops co-branded buzz programs for Yahoo! adverting partners.
On any given day, you can find Bennett scoping out corn fields, taxi yards, train depots, checking local FDA food service guidelines, bonding laws and a number of very odd things that don't require a college education.
Bennett holds an M.S. in Communications from Syracuse University Newhouse School of Public Communications and a B.A. in English from The Colorado College. Recent honors for her team's work include the 2004 Ad:Tech Award for Best Branding Campaign, 2004 PRO Promotion of the Year Award, 2003 PR Platinum Award and 2004 & 2002 PMA REGGIE Bronze winner.

Susan Reische

Director of Sales & Marketing | CNN, USA

Susan Reische Susan Reische manages a creative services group that delivers print, video and web design solutions for the CNN Strategic Integration Group. The group serves as a dedicated resource to develop and fulfill customized marketing solutions and to leverage CNN's assets – the CNN brand, the depth and breadth of CNN content, and the editorial expertise of print publications – to build client brands. The group effectively acts as a boutique ad agency within CNN that works with CNN's client advertisers to create and implement unique marketing and promotional ideas across the CNN media platforms.
Prior to joining CNN in 1998, Susan served as Director of Marketing Services for Individual Investor Group, where she was responsible for developing and managing the ad sales marketing, creative services and promotion departments of Individual Investor, a personal finance magazine, and Ticker, a financial trade magazine. She began her career in media sales and marketing in 1994 with News Corporation, in the News America FSI division. She graduated from Hofstra University in 1994 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a Fine Arts concentration.

Kehrt Reyher

President | VFP Communications, Poland

Susan Reische Kehrt Reyher is President of VFP Communications, Poland’s leading marcom information provider. The company publishes Media & Marketing Polska weekly under license from Advertising Age (Crain Communications) of the USA, as well as the monthly gifts title Business Media. VFP also operates eight web sites devoted to media, marketing and advertising, and is owner of the Kreatura advertising awards, the Golden Arrow direct marketing awards and Chimera, a design competition for newspapers and magazines.
Reyher is also CEO of the Modern Media Institute, an international training and education center based in Poland. A former newspaper editor and designer, he worked previously at The Providence Journal, The Detroit News and USA Today. He holds a bachelor’s degree in English literature from Indiana State University, and a master's degree in journalism from Indiana University.

Kerry E. Smith

Kerry E. Smith Kerry Smith brings nearly 30 years of marketing and communications experience to the development of The Global Marketer. He is a graduate of New York University and attended John Marshall Law School in Chicago. He has worked on the client and agency sides of advertising, direct marketing, promotion marketing and public relations. A former news reporter, he has managed campaigns, produced video documentaries, written speeches and edited corporate annual reports.
Kerry is the founder and former publisher of PROMO, the U.S.-based marketing magazine, where he developed the PROMO EXPO trade show and traveled the world establishing media partnerships in 11 countries to produce the World PRO Awards. After selling his company to Primedia Corp. in 1996, he moved the international side of the PROs to the Marketing Agencies Association Worldwide to form the GLOBES Awards for excellence in marketing. Kerry has been honored by MAA Worldwide as Marketing Professional of the Year and continues to serve the MAA in an advisory capacity.
